Is it really over?

The month and year are over and I am ready to tackle a new year and new beginning. How else can you look at it? Every day is a new opportunity to grow and I don't mean in the waist. I just said to Bob that I would not eat anymore today and then he goes and makes some grilled cheese sandwiches in MY new cast iron pan and I'm a goner. I have shown no restraint this holiday season. Eat, eat and eat. That's enough already. So TOMORROW I am starting to scale back. Oh wait I can't because we just received some venison tenderloin from Bob's cousin and we are grilling them with bacon tomorrow. Okay then the next day, I mean it, I'm stopping the endless snacking and cookie munching.
After weather caused cancellation of several of our family get togethers we did after all have a wonderful Christmas. It really was special to have our children here on Christmas Eve to have a gift exchange with dinner followed by a magical candle light service at church. Here are the slippers I made for everyone, and the girls getting ready for church. Christmas day was spent relaxing and eating ( this is the oven baked pancake I made from a recipe on Smitten Kitchen, amazing)and getting ready to head to Chicago the next day.

We spent a long 7 hours in the car but finally arrived to our hotels and then headed out in the drizzle to get a refreshment and laugh with the Gross family. The following few days in the city flew by. We enjoyed shopping, dining out ( celeb citing: Vince Vaughn eating at the same breakfast diner) walking everywhere, holiday lights and decorations, and GREAT company. Got a tour of Tom and Michelle's condo reno. This picture was taken in their lobby. What a project! It will be beautiful and I can't wait to see the finished product. We also enjoyed a lovely church service on Sunday at 4th Pres. On Michigan ave just a block from our hotel. The church was so beautifully decorated for the season and the choir angelic. Very formal and traditional and I loved it. Monday we shopped and enjoyed the few remaining hours with the kids before ending with a 6 hour train ride home that was uneventful and smooth. We got home about 11pm to greet our little Frodo and slept like the dead in our own beds.

Sorry I know this is a repeat but I don't know how to remove it, augh.

Rang in the New Year with the usual suspects. Great as always. Wayne and Sherry pulled out all the stops with a full 6 course Prime rib dinner followed by a raucous card game of In Between before we all rang in 2009. Home around 2:30 am. I am getting too old for this because I had to take two naps the next day.

Today we happily finished the installation of our long awaited wardrobe and dresser in the master room at the Edge. I am so glad to have it and am much relieved that it is even better than I expected. I am uber picky so was ready to be disappointed but thank goodness it is great. Custom made by Dave Nicol of Cass City and I will post picks later in the weekend when we go back up on Sunday.

So now settling in for a DVR marathon and basking in the comfort of home.
