New Year New Carpet, YEAH. I have been waiting ages to do this. We did a ton of work in the last week preping for this day. As with most decorating the work is in the prep. I know the house is for sale but lets face it, nothing is selling and I can't live with 19yo carpet anymore. So Bob and I set out painting and caulking and clearing out the closet and bedroom and away we go. The carpet layers where here this morning and now the reward is at hand.
If any of you love old houses the way I do take a look at these precious stairs. This home was built in 1855, and the wear on these treads is heavy and sweet. I look at these and think of all the hard working folks that have lived and worked here. The face of the steps is a fau wood grain from by gone days and it breaks my heart to cover it all back up. In 2010 we need a soft landing and no slip surfaces, so cover it we will. I expect the next owner will rediscover them someday and if they are a dreaming romantic like myself they too will wonder about the soles that lived here.
