Baby or Toddler Hat Tutorial (even adults can wear this, yeah)

So here we go. My niece needs a home business so I am posting this so she can see how I would make a hat in the easiest way. For this tutorial I used the leg of a pair of lightweight sweat pants. I would suggest using a T-shirt you don't wear or thrifting some at the local store.

The basic idea is to make a tube the circumference of the head and double the height of the finished hat plus some for a brim if you want one. So lets say your head is 22" around and you want a finished hat 10" tall which is what I did here.  So cut a piece of fabric 22" across and 20" tall. Fold in half lengthwise making sure the stretch of the fabric is side to side so the hat will stretch to fit as you put it on. Sew up the side of the tube and across both ends leaving a 3" opening in one end for turning. Turn inside out after sewn and then  put one end inside the other making it a double layer matching up the corners and sewing closed the little tuning opening. Using this method hides all seams which is nice. The shape can be changed while sewing across the ends to rounded if you like. Once tuned and formed into a double layer join the corner tips to the center and sew with a cute button or pom pom, be creative. Or just leave as points to flop around and have a life of their own. You can turn up the brim or leave it down. Enjoy
